| A ceremony at Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks, California, was the first of many such presentations to be made over the next several years by the Shigeru Kawai Foundation, established in honor of the company's Global Chairman, Shigeru Kawai.
Before cutting the ribbon that encircled the first donated grand piano, Kawai Executive Vice President, Jun Ando thanked the school district and students for "letting Kawai be an ongoing part of music culture in the United States. In accepting the instruments on behalf of the students of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Don Doyle, director of visual and performing arts for the district, said, "Music plays such an important part in the education of our students. We are pleased to be in partnership with Kawai America Corporation so that our teachers and students have available quality musical instruments that lead to improved musical achievement. We are honored to be the first school district in the United States to receive these magnificent instruments from the Shigeru Kawai Foundation."
The Shigeru Kawai Foundation has announced its long term program to donate one million dollars worth of musical instruments to schools across America. "We at Kawai are very proud to be in the position to demonstrate in such a powerful way our continuing support for music education," said Brian Chung, Vice President/General Manager of the Los Angeles - based Kawai America Corporation.
